Dear St. Michael’s
It’s time once again for you to
complete a pledge card! Please help your
Vestry plan the 2021 budget by returning the enclosed Pledge Card by Sunday, December
6. Remember, your 2020 pledge level does
NOT carry forward, so we really need you to tell us your level of support for
2020 was a challenging year for all of us, both on a personal level with
the COVID-19 pandemic and its many impacts, and for our Church. We look forward to 2021 being a year of a
rebirth, full of hope and promise for all of us, and for St. Michael’s. I hope you will join me in making a
commitment to support St. Michael’s as we move forward together to support our
community, our important mission areas, and a re-building of our family of
I understand discussing money and budgets is difficult for many of us, but
the reality is that, in addition to the many volunteer hours and efforts that
so many of you contribute to St. Michael’s,
it also requires money to pay our bills, to keep the church functioning, to
pay salaries and benefits, and to support the many worthy organizations St.
Michael’s supports, both locally and internationally, helping so many in
need. Our annual budgets in the recent
past have ranged from $275,000 to just under $300,000, with almost all of this
coming from generous donations from our parishioners.
As you consider how much to give/how much to pledge, please unlock your
heart to God. Ask Him, in prayer, to
help you find answers to some of these questions:
- Is my weekly/monthly/annual giving one of my
first priorities, or “what’s left over?” If the latter, does this really reflect my gratitude to all that God has
given me, and to the importance of God and St. Michael’s in my life?
- “WHY” do I give?
What does St. Michael’s – and its mission areas – really mean to me and
my family? Does my pledge reflect this?
- Is my pledge both responsible and significant
based on my financial situation, rather than an amount based on habit?
- Does my decision about pledging make me joyful?
If you pledged last year, I look forward to receiving your continued commitment
of support for 2021. If you are a new parishioner, or missed pledging in 2020, I
invite you to join me in “living in the key of G” (grace and generosity). I give because it is a privilege and a joy to
share what’s been given to me. I give
because loving your neighbor includes generosity in action. I give because God
always gives. I give because of God’s
grace, and the experience of seeing what happens when you give what you can.
So I ask you, please, be as generous as you
can, and return your pledge card by Sunday, December 6. Together we can make
2021 a truly blessed year for St. Michael’s.
May the Lord be with you,
Vestry, Resources Chairman
